Our Croydon FAQ

How are line painting materials manufactured?

Our area of specialism is thermoplastic line marking – ideal for both interior and exterior spaces; our work using this technique can be found all throughout Croydon and its surrounds, or viewed on our gallery page. The material used is a combination of glass beads, synthetic resin and carefully tested, non-toxic paint products. The aforementioned beads, due to their intrinsic reflective qualities, are especially suited to road markings due to their high visibility. On top of this, the paint is anti-slip (ideal for playground markings). Thermoplastic line markings are exceptionally long lasting (up to 10x more so than normal paints), and are resistant to wear and tear.

Is it possible to remove line markings following application?

Despite this impressive durability, and lifespan of up to 6 years without extra coats or updates, the road markings and playground markings we set around Croydon can be removed. This means if you change your designs or fancy a new layout before thermoplastic line markings “naturally” wear down, it’s totally possible to achieve this. Removal involves using hydro-blasting equipment which quickly clears a surface of its markings, without causing damage to the surface itself (or surrounding properties and premises).

Should a surface be primed prior to line marking / line painting?

The preparation phase is speedy and straight forward, and simply involves cleaning the surface of oil, grease, water, debris and dust – all of which could otherwise inhibit the application. When working on asphalt and concrete surfaces – for example when handling playground markings or road markings in the Croydon area – we recommend a tack coat application to improve adhesion and reduce subsequent wear.

Can line painting be carried out in wet weather?

Unfortunately not. Thermoplastic line marking materials will only bond with a surface securely if it is dry. Removal of previous line painting and line marking can be carried out in the rain and damp, however. Our reliance upon the weather means we’re constantly keeping updated with weather patterns, and working quickly and efficiently during spells of dry weather so we can complete Croydon projects with the specified schedule agreed before work starts.

Does it take long for thermoplastic line markings to set?

This depends on the application. Road markings and similar outdoor thermoplastic line marking can set in around 5 minutes. Other techniques, including use of water-based paints for particular projects including warehouse interiors, can take a little while longer – which is while we try to always use the former method where appropriate, so Croydon clients can get back to business as usual with minimal fuss.
